The legend of the Surf Monkey Death Squad doesn't begin in a lab or a boardroom, but at the intersection of a natural disaster and a corporate cover-up.
The Origin: Project Blue Break
Ten years ago, a clandestine pharmaceutical conglomerate known as Aura-Gen established a secret research facility on the remote Atoll of Sorrows. Their goal was to develop "Biological Aquatic Operatives"—primates enhanced with human-level intelligence and amphibious capabilities for deep-sea salvage.
The project was a success, but the subjects—led by the gorilla now known as Hang-Ten—weren't the mindless drones Aura-Gen expected. They developed a culture, a language, and a deep, spiritual bond with the ocean. They spent their "recreation time" mastering the massive, untouched swells surrounding the island, finding peace in the surf.
The Betrayal
When Aura-Gen decided the project was too expensive and ordered a "Total Bio-Sanitation" (an execution order), the facility’s lead researcher, a disillusioned oceanographer named Dr. Aris Thorne, leaked the security codes to the primates.
As the facility's self-destruct sequence hummed, the team didn't just flee; they fought back. Using prototype tactical gear and repurposed surfing equipment, they dismantled the security team with a fluid, rhythmic violence that looked more like a dance than a massacre.
The Aftermath
The facility vanished in a massive underwater explosion, leaving the world to believe the "escaped lab animals" perished. Instead, the five survivors drifted into the open ocean on experimental buoyancy boards.
They realized that the same corporations polluting the seas and exploiting the weak were the ones who had created them. They traded their tropical paradise for the shadows of the concrete jungle, becoming a ghost unit for hire—taking the "dirty" jobs that protect the innocent, provided the pay is right and the location has a decent break.
